Troubleshooting

  1. IMPORTANT: The PopShops  WP plugin may not be compatible with your version of WordPress or your theme.
  2. IMPORTANT: After you pop a product into your blog, give your links a test. If the page that they go to is blank, that means your affiliate ID is incorrectly entered. Note these instructions.
  3. If you are unable to login to your PopShops account from the PopShops Options page in WP, make sure that your host has CURL enabled (contact your host).
  4. If you can't see the Product Popper, it may be because your WYSIWYG is turned off. Check Options -> Writing and Users -> Personal Options.
  5. Some plug-ins (e.g., Exec-php) are incompatible because they affect the WYSIWYG.
  6. When all else fails, clear your browser cache.
  7. If shops don't appear on your sidebar, footer, etc., verify that you have a theme that follows the standard WordPress template conventions.
  8. Please note that since this is a third-party tool created for a product that is itself still being developed, there is limited support for this plug-in.

WP Plug-in FAQ

If you don't know what PopShops is, explore our general FAQ, or read the PC World article which has a good description of what we do. And there's always Wikipedia to tell you what affiliate marketing is if you don't already know.

Q: How much does it cost to use the PopShops WP plug-in?
A: Same as the regular toolset. With a Basic (free) account you get unlimited "Product Pops" (in your posts) and 10 shops (JavaScript). A Pro account ($5.99/mo.) gives you 20 shops with SEO-friendly PHP for your shops, and nice-to-have filter/preferences for the Product Popper. Pro Unimited gives you unlimited shops with the Pro features.

Q: Why do I need a PopShops account to use this plug-in if it's free?
A: PopShops has an enormous database of (at last count) over 50 million products from almost 2000 merchants and it's growing quickly. It would be impossible to offer this service as a standalone plug-in because of the infrastructure it takes to collect, aggregate, import, and clean up the data feeds. You create a login so you can update your shops dynamically, track visits, and customize and save your shops.

Q: Why are the affiliate links redirected through PopShops?
A: PopShops uses redirects to track your stats (available in the PopShops dashboard). It also keeps product URLs fresh and landing on the correct page. (Update: Enterprise accounts now have the option to redirect to their own domain.)

Q: What is an API key?
A: An API key is how your WordPress account can securely access the PopShops shop widgets you've built using this plug-in.

Q: Which merchants are in PopShops?
A: PopShops almost 2000 merchant data feeds with about 50,000,000 products all major networks. For a complete list of active merchants, click here. If you have any special requests, be sure to mail them to us. We're adding more merchants every day.
